On 20 January 2025, the Department of South Asian, Middle East and African Affairs organized a special talk titled “Steps into the Himalayas: Connecting Thailand-Nepal” at Bua Kaew Room, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to promote the cordial relations between Thailand and Nepal.

Mr. Vitidnan Rojanapanich, a Thai mountaineer and President of the Thai-Nepal Friendship Association, was invited to share his experience and inspiration as the first foreigner to successfully summit Mount Yasa Thak, Nepal on December 2, 2024. He also made a request to the Nepalese authorities to add the suffix “Echo Peak” after the name “Mount Yasa Thak” on the map, to mark this historic moment as a symbol of friendship reflecting the endless love between Thailand and Nepal.

On this occasion, Ms. Sasirit Tangulrat, Director-General of the Department of South Asian, Middle East and African Affairs, and H.E. Mr. Dhan Bahadur Oli, Ambassador of Nepal to Thailand, delivered remarks reflecting the strong partnership over 65 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, highlighting the cultural relations through Buddhist ties and people-to-people connection as witnessed during the assistance provided by the Thai people to Nepal during the major earthquake in 2015.

Over 50 guests attended the event, including former Thai ambassadors, the Thai Foundation, media representatives, members of the Thai-Nepali Association, government officials, etc. The full interview clip can be viewed on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Facebook at www.facebook.com/ThaiMFA.
