On 17 - 20 January 2024, H.E. Mr. Worawoot Pongprapapant, Director-General of the Department of South Asian, Middle East and African Affairs (SAMEAF), Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, led the Thai public and private sectors to visit Iran with a view to enhancing Thai-Iranian bilateral relations, and exploring business and investment opportunities.

On 17 January 2024, the Director-General discussed with H.E. Mr. Ali Asghar Mohammadi, Assistant Foreign Minister and Director-General of East Asia and Oceania, about ways and means to further promote cooperation between Thailand and Iran. On the same day, the Director-General also discussed with H.E. Mr. Mehdi Shooshtari, Assistant Foreign Minister, and Director General of West Asia and North Africa, and exchanged insights on the situation in Israel and Palestine. On this occasion, the Director-General sought assistance from the Iranian side to keep the Thai side updated on the current status of the remaining Thai hostages, which the Iranian expressed its readiness to support.

On 18 January 2024, the Director-General discussed with Mr. Mehdi Zeyghami, Ministry of Industry, Mining and Trade and Chairman of the Trade Promotion Organization. Both sides discussed ways to address the challenges of economic cooperation and the Thailand-Iran Joint Comission (JC) scheduled to be held in Thailand this year.

During the visit, the private sectors of both sides also networked and exchanged business information for further concrete cooperation.
