            On 6 March 2024 at the MFA, H.E. Mr. Worawoot Pongprapapant, Director-General of the Department of South Asian, Middle East and African Affairs, had a meeting with H.E. Mr. Mohammed Abdul Hye, Ambassador of Bangladesh to Thailand, to discuss the preparation of the proposed official visit to Thailand in April 2024 of H.E. Sheik Hasina, Prime Minister of Bangladesh.

            During the discussion, both sides agreed that the Official Visit of the Prime Minister of Bangladesh will be an opportunity to push forward concrete cooperation in areas of mutual interest, such as trade and investment facilitation, maritime connectivity through coastal shipping services between Chittagong Port and Ranong Port.  Both sides also followed up on the pending MoUs and agreements expected to be signed during the said visit.

            Both sides also exchanged views on ways to work together and push forward the cooperation under the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) of which Thailand is the current Chair and will host the Summit later this year. Bangladesh will take up the BIMSTEC Chairmanship after Thailand.
