On July 31 2026, Her Excellency Mrs. Urasa Mongkolnavin Director-General of the Department of South Asia, Middle East and African Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, met with His Excellency Mr. Hassan Abdel Salam Omer, Ambassador of the Republic of the Sudan to Thailand with residence in Kuala Lumpur to discuss ways for Thailand and Sudan to enhance bilateral relations and mutual cooperation.

The Director-General underscored the importance Thailand attaches to the Thailand–Africa Initiative (TAI), which aims to advance cooperation in four key areas: political, economic, development cooperation, and global strategic cooperation. Sudan is one of Thailand’s priority countries under the TAI framework.

The Director-General noted Sudan’s current situation and progress in the country’s national recovery efforts and reaffirmed Thailand’s readiness to supporting Sudan’s recovery and development in areas of mutual interest such as development cooperation, agriculture, fisheries, manufacturing, and energy.

The two sides also discussed promoting people-to-people exchanges. In this regard, the 'Colours of Africa 2026' event, which will be organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand in September, will serve as a platform for enhancing mutual understanding between Thailand and African countries.
