On 28 July 2025, Ms. Sasirit Tangulrat, Director-General of the Department of South Asian, Middle East and African Affairs, together with H.E. Ms. Morakot Janemathukorn, Ambassador of Thailand to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, with residence in Nairobi, the Republic of Kenya, had a meeting with Mr. Zeleke Temesgen, Commissioner of the Ethiopian Investment Commission (EIC), at the Commission’s headquarters in Addis Ababa.
The Director-General expressed appreciation to the EIC for extending the business license of Charoen Pokphand Foods Public Company Limited (CPF), which reflected Ethiopia’s openness to foreign investment. She conveyed her anticipation that other Thai private entities interested in conducting business in Ethiopia would also receive similar support from Ethiopian investment authorities. She also extended an invitation for Ethiopia to participate in upcoming investment promotion events in Thailand, including Africa Day, organised by the African diplomatic corps in Bangkok, and the Africa Business Forum, scheduled to be hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 10 September 2025.
The Commissioner congratulated the Thai private sector on the successful renewal of the business license and reaffirmed Ethiopia’s readiness to welcome investment from Thailand. He shared that the Ethiopian government is currently undertaking regulatory reforms in the banking system to facilitate more efficient international transactions for foreign investors. The Ethiopian government is working to revise customs taxation to ease the import of raw materials used in manufacturing by reducing excessive tariff barriers. The Commissioner also expressed interest in participating in trade and investment promotional events in Thailand.
