On 18 October 2024 at the MFA, Ms. Sasirit Tangulrat, Director-General, Department of South Asian, Middle East and African Affairs, met with H.E. Mr. Abdoulaye Barro, Ambassador of the Republic of Senegal to the Kingdom of Thailand with residence in Kuala Lumpur, on the occasion of his visit to Thailand to present the Letter of Credence to His Majesty the King of Thailand on 19 October 2024. Both sides expressed satisfaction with the cordial relations between Thailand and Senegal over nearly 45 years since the establishment of the diplomatic relations between both countries in 1980.
The Director-General expressed appreciation for the Embassy of the Republic of Senegal’s kind support rendered to the Colours of Africa 2024 event, which was concluded with great success, and enhanced awareness among the Thai public, especially among the Thai youth of Africa's potential in various fields. Both sides discussed ways and means to further strengthen bilateral relations through proposals on exchanges of high-level visits, an agreement on the exemption of visa requirements for diplomatic and official passports, a 4-side meeting between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassies of both parties via teleconference, cooperation in trade and investment, particularly in the sectors of agriculture and energy. The Thai side reiterated its commitment to strengthen development cooperation with Senegal in the fields of Thailand’s expertise, such as agriculture, fisheries, and public health.
Both sides also exchanged views on cooperation in multilateral fora, and the Director-General took this opportunity to express sincere appreciation for Senegal’s support to Thailand, at the election of membership of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) for the term of 2025 - 2027, which resulted in Thailand being elected.
