On 5 January 2026, at the Embassy of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh in Thailand, Ms. Wanalee Lohpechra, Acting Director-General of the Department of South Asian, Middle East and African Affairs, represented the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand in presenting a flower vase from the Minister of Foreign Affairs to H.E. Mr. Faiyaz Murshid Kazi, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh to Thailand and signed the book of condolences on the passing of Begum Khaleda Zia, former Prime Minister of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.

The Acting Director-General and the Ambassador also discussed various issues of common interests. The Acting Director-General welcomed the co-sponsoring of the 2025 Bangkok Joint Statement by the Global Partnership against Online Scams by Bangladesh. Both sides agreed on the importance of a collective global response to address the issue, particularly efforts to track down those behind the criminal networks which are among the root causes of the issue.

At the same time, both sides exchanged views on the upcoming general elections in their respective countries, scheduled to take place in early February 2026. They also discussed ways to further strengthen Thailand-Bangladesh bilateral relations, including the convening of the 4th Bilateral Consultations (BC).
