The Ethiopian Ambassador expressed his sincere appreciation for the Thai side’s continuous support rendered to the Ethiopian side to promote bilateral relations, which resulted in a dynamism in various fields of cooperation, including trade, investment, and medical tourism. The two sides also discussed on the pending agreements and Memorandums of Understanding, as well as, cooperation in consular matter, particularly, a protection of Ethiopian inmates in Thailand.  Moreover, the Ethiopian Ambassador informed of the Ethiopian Government’s desire to open its Mission in Thailand in the near future thanks to the more dynamic cooperations between the two countries, especially, on trade, investment, and exchange of visits. The Ethiopian side was further of the view that this was a right time to deepen relations between Thailand and the African region.

As one of the emerging markets in Africa, Ethiopia has more than 100 million people, and is home to African Union – AU Headquarter, Africa’s largest international organisation. Ethiopia is, therefore, a new market with high potential for the Thai investment. The total trade value between the two countries touched 52 million US dollars in 2018. In addition, Ethiopia is a member of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa - COMESA, a regional grouping of 21 countries with population of 540 million people. This also plays a part in making Ethiopia a gateway for Thailand to the Eastern and Southern African states.
